 is recognized as one of the leading Cantorial Sopranos in the Greater Los Angeles area. A love of music and a love of Judaism enable her lyric voice to evoke an emotional response from audiences worldwide. Sandy has been featured as a cantorial soloist at Temple Ramat Zion of Northridge, Temple Etz Chaim of Thousand Oaks, Congregation Ner Tamid of Rancho Palos Verdes and Temple Beth El of San Pedro. She was also the Music Educator at Congregation Ner Tamid. She has performed as a soloist with the LA Jewish Symphony and at 2002 and 2003 Psalm Fests held at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro. She was prominently featured at benefit concerts at Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue of Malibu, at Temple Etz Chaim, the Jewish Federation Benefit Concert in 2002 held at the Milken Community Center, and at S’likhot Concerts at Temple Ramat Zion. Sandy also has several album credits and enjoys her time in the recording studio.
Having studied and performed with renowned Hazzanim, Cantor Sandy is well versed in religious music and grounded in music theory. Sandy received her BA in Music from California State University, Northridge. She has studied music composition and has written religious pieces. A Hashkiveinu that she composed holds a special place in her repertoire, and she has performed it at synagogues throughout North and South America. Sandy’s classically trained 3-octave range is suited to all types of music performance including Judaic, opera, rock, pop and standards. In addition to her music background, Sandy has taught pre-school, kindergarten, religious school and Bureau of Jewish Education programs for nearly 15 years. She has taught at Temple Aliyah of Woodland Hills, Temple Etz Chaim, Temple Ramat Zion, Temple Beth El, Congregation Tifereth Jacob and Congregation Ner Tamid.
In addition to her Cantorial functions, Cantor Sandy serves as Educator for our religious school. She provides the children with a loving and engaging environment where they learn about our traditions, history, values and language. Cantor Sandy also prepares the children and adults for their Bar and Bat Mitzvot with patience and encouragement.
Having grown up in the San Fernando Valley, Sandy now lives in Torrance with her husband Gaston Bernstein, her daughters Gabriela and Naomi and her step-sons Daniel and Matthew. Besides singing and teaching, Sandy enjoys cooking, painting, scrapbooking, writing calligraphy, dancing (especially Israeli Folk Dancing or Rikkudei Am) and making Jewish paper-cuts.
Cantor Sandy enjoys spending time with the members of CBT and sharing with the congregation many wonderful Shabbatot, Holidays, and Simhas full of beautiful music.
