(formerly South West Temple Beth Torah) has been servicing the South Bay Jewish Community for almost 60 years. First in Gardena and now in Torrance.
It has always been our goal to be the most affordable synagogue in the area. We believe that all that want to worship and socialize in a conservative shul should be able to do it at an affordable cost.
We offer a hamish atmosphere and a deep history to all of those who wish to join us.
We invite any and all in our Jewish community to "try us on for size" by visiting during a Friday night or Saturday morning service.
Services are held every Friday night at 7:15 pm. Family services are the first Friday of each month. Religious school children participate in the service with readings, prayers and songs. Simcha Night is the third Friday of each month where we celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other joyous events.
Our Religious School, located in the Sam and Dorothy Magid Educational Center, provides its students with an exceptional opportunity to learn to read, write and translate Hebrew, learn about Jewish history, values, customs and holidays. This provides them with a basic understanding and appreciation for Judaism as well as the skills necessary for Bar and Bat Mitzvah. The Religious school is open to children in kindergarten through Bar/Bat Mitzvah and meets each Sunday.
Our rabbi holds discussion groups throughout the year with topics including spirituality, holiday preparation & celebration and current events.
Various committees organize our special events. Many events encourage attendance by the entire family. Annual events include a Hanukkah celebration, Model Seder, Purim Masquerade, Mother's Day Luncheon and Game Nights, etc. Havdallah services are planned throughout the year.
